Nuclear power studies in Turkey

Countdown started for nuclear power stations in Turkey. As a first step, the constructions for three units are to start by 2007. Those units start to operate in 2012, 2014 and 2015. TAEK (Turkish Atomic Energy Institution) completed the feasibility studies on the correct location.
Total capacity of those nuclear reactors are 4.500 MW. And the total cost is predicted between USD 4 billion and USD 8 billion. The debates for nuclear energy started in 1960s for the first time in Turkey. TAEK considered 90 different parameters on determining of the location and Akkuyu (Mersin) was agreed, opposed by the environmentalist groups.
